Melon Diadema description. The aperture(opening at the front of the shell) is wide with three colomeller folds. The coloration is usually yellow-orange with brown markings. The habitat is Indo-Pacific tropical region, living on mud sea floor about 10 meter depth. In ancient times, the Melon Diadema was called a bailer. It got that name from the local natives; they used the shell to bail water from their boats.
